Unresolved stress issues can affect you physically and mentally. Stress can lead to anxiety, depression and sometimes it can lead to thoughts of suicide. Therefore it is critical that you learn how to deal with the stress that life throws at you. If you are really having issues and don't feel that you can resolve them on your own, talk to your doctor or a psychiatrist. The reason that I mention these two professionals instead of a therapist is that they are able to prescribe medications if you need it. Don't think of yourself as crazy. If the doctor suggests that you take an anti anxiety medication, try it. You may be surprised at the results.
Now for ways to deal with day to day stress on your own. First of all, stop stressing out over situations that you cannot control. For example, you can't control the weather and your can't control what your co-workers think and do. Let these things go and pick your stressors wisely.
Learn meditation techniques to help get rid of stress and help you think more clearly. Stretching exercises and a few minutes of deep meditation will do wonders for your stress level. When you are able to take a few minutes to relax, you will be able to solve critical problems easier.
If you find yourself in a particular stressful situation that is going nowhere but downhill, walk away. That's right, excuse yourself and walk away from the situation for a few minutes. Take a walk outside in the fresh air. This can help clear your head and allow you to think more clearly. If you are leading a meeting, suggest that everyone take a break and go for a walk. Clearing your head for a few minutes will allow you to come back to a stressful situation relaxed and able to solve problems more effectively.
Keep a stress ball on your desk or carry it with you at all times. If is better to squeeze the living daylights out of a stress ball than to choke the life out of a co-worker. A stress ball will allow you to have something to direct your frustration and stress to.
Use these tips to reduce your daily stress levels. It is also important that you eat right, get plenty of exercise and do your best to get a good night's sleep. The healthier you are, the better you will be at dealing with stress.
